The Monona County Economic Development Partnership is known for leading the county to economic prosperity, making it the premier destination for business and facilitating an unparalleled quality of life for residents of the county.
Business Development and Attraction Initiatives
Site Selection & Development
We identify potential sites that would be suitable for new businesses or existing companies looking to build new. We then identify the needs of those sites and address those needs with city and county agencies and create action plans for further development. We also work diligently on our Vacancy to Opportunity ongoing campaign that aids in decreasing the amount of vacant buildings in our downtown districts and spurs entrepreneurial activity.
We work on behalf of the business community with city & county leaders to develop incentive programs for startups and businesses that are looking to expand in or locate to Monona County. Incentives include but are not limited to city grants, revolving loan funds, tax abatement programs, zoning processes, and land options.
The economic development organizations in Plymouth, Monona, and Woodbury counties have come together to create the Iowa West Coast Initiative. This initiative aims at working together to increase entrepreneurial activity in Northwest Iowa and support small business growth. The Iowa West Coast Initiative also works to provide educational opportunities and technical assistance for start-ups including, but not limited to: Launch It College Games, Business Blenders, Entrepalooza, Launch Week, and BizBrew. MCEDP also meets one on one with any and all potential entrepreneurs to provide resources and guidance in starting a business. We have created a business start-up road map full of resources from in and around Monona County to assist with starting and growing a business.
Business Retention & Expansion Initiatives
MCEDP has partnered with local high schools to help bridge the gap between the education system and local businesses. Together we gather resources to prepare students for their chosen career path and expose them to local career opportunities and the opportunities to work alongside those businesses to prepare for their future.
Our organization connects local employers to hiring and training programs available through partners such as Iowa Work Force, Future Ready Iowa, Home Base Iowa, and Western Iowa colleges and universities. We have also partnered with Rural Housing 360 to provide affordable housing opportunities for individuals looking to live and work in Monona County.
Promoting Tourism & Local Spending
As a small shop in Monona County, your open sign is your biggest contribution to development around you! We want to make sure that sign stays on for years to come. We work to promote the area through social media, share all business announcements that we can, and we have created the Monona County Vintage Road Trip Map to get visitors from outside of our area to shop and dine in Monona County!
MCEDP connects with all of the right resources so you can spend less time searching and more time doing what you do best – business. Need information about expansion funding, a succession plan, business plan help, product testing facilities, start-up grants? Perhaps you are unsure of exactly what you need? We have a resource for that. This service is available to all Monona County businesses whether you are an MCEDP partner or not!
Community & Organization Support
A prosperous community is good for business. We serve on many community and organizational committees in an effort to provide economic development resources and represent the business community. Because each Monona County community is unique, our role within each community and organization varies depending on the projects and goals of that community or organization. For some it is promoting tourism in the Loess Hills, for others it’s housing development or downtown beautification. If your project goals align with our economic development mission, count us in!
