MCEDP Creates “Rising Tide” Group in response to COVID-19 Business Disruption

By admin on August 24, 2020 1 Comment

Monona County Economic Development (MCEDP) has created a monthly group with area businesses to meet virtually to discuss marketing ideas and business pivoting. This group is called “Monona County’s Rising Tide.” The meetings are opened with top marketing guidelines and end in beneficial discussion amongst business owners.

The first meeting took place August 17, 2020 and included guidance on identifying target customers and engaging in social media addressing specific demographics. “Customer segmenting is so important right now. We can’t just throw some random wording or photos out to the wind and hope that someone will pick up on it. It will be drowned out by politics, COVID-19, and social issues. We have to be specific in our targeting to so we are able to speak our customer’s language and meet them where they are at virtually. MCEDP talks with our local businesses about marketing more than any other development activity because a rising tide really does lift all boats and if we are each doing a good job with our message and branding, it will benefit our neighbors. We can’t rely solely on “shop local” campaigns and our own population. If we build something good here, they will come. They will come from all over. We have to work together to create a strong message and give Monona County a voice.” – Jess Carrier

The next meeting will take place September 21 @ 5:00pm via Zoom and will feature guest: Stacy Orndorff, with Iowa’s West Coast Initiative, to talk about her new position, along with some marketing techniques she has used with her successful food truck – Coffee & Nosh.

To be included in these meetings, you must be a business in Monona County. Send an email to mocoecdev@gmail.com and request to be added to the Rising Tide Group, you will be sent the recording from the previous meeting and added to the email list for future meetings.
